Mila 2.0 - Debra Driza

Date Started: June 9, 2014
Date Finished: June 10, 2014

I recently started visiting the local library after a long absence (the one closest to me before our recent move had been closed for renovations). Having a kid is a great reason to return to the library - obviously the books are a big draw, but they also have great story times and some even have play areas. Nice! So, while picking up new books for my son, I decided why not look for some books for me? The price is certainly right. My first library book was Freedom, which is reviewed below. Mila 2.0 was my next pick.

Why...?

Because when you have a toddler you don't have a lot of time to look at books and find the perfect one. You have time to find one that looks interesting and take a gamble. And that's what this was - a gamble on a YA book I've never heard of.

The great thing about gambles is that they can pay off, as this one did. I thought this was an interesting premise and a fun/exciting read. I don't want to spoil too much - the plot is key here, so instead I'll copy the Amazon profile below. Suffice to say that it's very action heavy. All in all, this was a fun pick. Good beach reading for the summer.

Mila was living with her mother in a small Minnesota town when she discovered she was also living a lie.

She was never meant to learn the truth about her identity. She was never supposed to remember the past.

Now she has no choice but to run--from the dangerous operatives who want her terminated because she knows too much, and from a mysterious group that wants to capture her alive and unlock her advanced technology.

Evading her enemies won't help Mila escape the cruel reality of what she is and cope with everything she has had to leave behind. However, what she's becoming is beyond anyone's imagination, including her own, and that just might save her life.

A compulsively readable sci-fi thriller, Mila 2.0 is Debra Driza's bold debut and the first book in an action-filled, Bourne Identity-style trilogy.
